Para ito sa lahat ng mga babaeng sinabihang, "Babae ka lang."

Ang mga salitang ito ay maaaring maipahayag sa iba't ibang paraan, sa iba't ibang pananalita. Maririnig ito sa mga hiyaw na "Hi ate, anong pangalan mo?" o "Uy, chicks!" na galing sa mga lalakeng tumatambay sa kanto, sa mga sutsot at tawanan kapag lumingon at yumuko ka dahil sa hiya. Makikita ito sa mga kapitbahay mo kapag papunta ka sa tindahan para bumili ng suka, naka-shorts at sando lang, at ang pagkasuklam ay maliwanag sa panlilisik ng kanilang mata at sa linya ng kanilang bibig. Mararamdaman ito na parang bala sa dibdib dahil sa mga bantang galing sa mga tatay, nanay, tito, tita, lolo, lola, ate, kuya, mga kapitbahay—kahit mga estrangharong nakakasabayan mo so langsangan. Pare-parehas ang mga sinasabi nila: Mag-ingat ka, hindi ka ligtas dito, mapanganib maging ikaw dahil babae ka.

Totoo. Babae ka nga. Tao ka rin nga eh. Pero ang pagturing saatin ng ating mga kapwa tao ay maitutulad sa pagtrato sa mga baboy-ramo sa gubat. Survival of the fittest, hindi ba? Ang lipunan ay ang mga mangangaso at ikaw ang target nila.

Baka iniisip ninyo, "Grabe naman. OA. Baboy ramo daw? Ano to, National Geographic?" Baka iniisip ninyo na isa ako dun sa mga 'feminazi' na walang nagawa kundi magalit sa mga lalake dahil nabuhay sila, o magpakita ng mga...sensitibong parte ng aking katawan at sumigaw ng "Free the nipple!" Baka iniisip niyo rin na pantay-pantay naman ang mga lalaki at babae—anong pinapaglaban mo?

Oo nga, pantay-pantay ang mga karapatan natin sa ilalim ng Konstitusyon ng Republika ng Pilipinas. Paliitin pa natin. Dito sa Ateneo, dati'y lalaki lamang ang pwede mag-aral dito. Pero heto kami. Dati nga hindi kami pwede mag-aral, eh. Tulad ng sabi ng rapper na si Drake, "Started from the bottom, now we're here." Pero kahit na pantay-pantay ang mga karapatan natin sa ilalim ng batas, hindi pantay ang mga pribiliheyo nating gawin ang mga ito. Sa kasalukuyan, laganap pa rin ang mga "hate crime" sa mga babae, ang pag-aabuso, pag-haharas, seksismo, paggahasa, pagpatay. Buksan mo ang telebisyon, magbasa ka sa Internet, maglakad-lakad ka sa mga kanto at makikita mo ito. Sasabihin ng mga iba diyan, "Nangyayari rin kaya yan sa mga lalake. Duh." At totoo nga. Hindi ko naman sinasabi na hindi ito nangyayari sa kanila.

Pero kailan ba pinatay ang isang lalaki dahil sa kanilang kalalakihan?

Nangyayari ang mga ito dahil ang kababaihan ay karaniwang naiuugnay sa kahinaan. Dahil mula nang tayo'y ipinanganak, naitanim na sa ating kaisipan na wala tayong lugar sa patriarko na ito kundi maging asawa, katulong, alipin. Dahil kahit ang kapwa nating babae ay sinasabing ang kababaihan ay umiikot lamang sa pagpapabuntis at panganganak.

Mas higit pa tayo sa mga parte ng ating katawan. Tayo ang taga-bigay buhay, pangangalaga, pagmamahal. Pero tayo rin ay mga doktor, abogado, guro, siyentipiko, mangangaso, magsasaka, pinuno, sundalo. Nakarating na tayo sa kalawakan at naging boses na tayo ng lipunan.

Ang kababaihan ay walang kinalaman sa kakayahan. Ang kababaihan ay hindi isang depekto. Ang kababaihan ay nangangailangan ng higit pa sa pagpapaubaya.

Para ito sa lahat ng mga babaeng sinabihan ng, "Babae ka lang." Huwag ka maniwala sa kanila. Babae ka. Hindi ka isang pagkukulang.

Sa umaga ng ika-27 ng Pebrero sa Penafrancia Ave., patuloy ang demolition team sa paggiba ng mga bahay, samantalang ang mga pinaghirapang ipundar na mga bahay ay nawasak lamang malipas ang ilang oras.

Ang pagbuwag sa mga bahay ay dulot ng road widening project ng gobyerno mula Penafrancia Avenue, San Felipe hanggang Pacol. 

Pinaniniwalaan na nakatira sa mga bahay na ito ang mga lulong sa droga pati na rin ang mga drug lords.

Dahil sa pagwasak ng mga bahay, nagkaroon ng mabigat na trapik sa Penafrancia Avenue at nawalan ng mga tahanan ang mga pamilyang matagal nang nananatili sa tabi ng daan.

Mababakas sa mga larawan sa ibaba na naging maaliwalas ang paligid ng simbahan at matatanaw ang ilog na may bagong rip-rap. 

        Students from Social Journalism and Teacher’s Assistantship Program were invited to join the second and last day of the three-day symposium with the theme of Planting Seed: The Future of the Philippine Cinema, held at Ateneo de Naga University last February 22-24, 2017. The activity introduced various concepts of filmmaking from its origin down to the present changes of the Philippine Cinema. School heads, teachers and other government representatives from the six provinces of Bicol Region attended the said forum.

The FDCP Chairperson, Ms. Liza Dino invited respectable guest speakers to host the different plenary sessions. Mr. Wilfredo Manalang, the FDCP Executive Director was also present together with Mr. Tito Valiente, a film critic and educator and Dr. Noel Volante, the Film Festival Director. Also, award winning directors were as well in attendance.



On the second day of the symposium, Jose Javier Reyes discussed about the different generations of filmmakers; The Baby Boomers, Generation Xs, Millennials and introduced the Sententials.  He further explained the different natures of this generations in connection to the rapid changes in Philippine Cinema.



On the last day of the symposium, Raymond Red, director of Anino a thirteen-minute film who won Best Independent Short Film in Cannes Film Festival ten years ago, enthusiastically introduced the origin of cinema. After his plenary session, his film Palme D’Or Best Short Film and his several of his film teasers were screened.

People from all over the world are participating in a makeup challenge started by a beauty blogger on Youtube to represent their mental illnesses in a way that could help end the stigma against it.

Yasaman Gheidi, a well-known beauty blogger also known as Lilmoonchild, started the project after posting a video on Youtube wherein she painted one side of her face with her depiction of her mental illnesses. Dubbed as the Inside Out Challenge from the critically-acclaimed Disney Movie Inside Out, she encouraged people with mental illnesses to step out of their own shadows and talk about their illnesses openly and end the stigma surrounding it.

The Canada-based blogger says she got the inspiration after a panic attack she had at her company Christmas party, where she
feigned a headache to her colleagues instead of telling them the truth.

“Why did I have to be ashamed and lie about my anxiety attack? So many wonderful and amazing people suffer from the same mental illnesses that I do on a daily basis. Why can’t we just talk about it openly?" says Gheidi.

Since her post last January, thousands of people have joined the challenge on Instagram using the hashtag #insideoutchallenge. These users all shared their own life stories and experiences related to their mental illnesses, and how this is a step towards treating mental illnesses as it deserves to be treated: as an illness and not a quirk. Gheidi is overwhelmed and grateful for the worldwide response.

She posted, “For many people it’s not easy to share a side of oneself that very few people, if any, get to see. It is challenging to look within yourself and explore the emotions and mental struggles that are often hidden away.”

Users are continuously posting and sharing their own life stories with mental illnesses using the #insideoutchallenge hashtag on Instagram and Twitter. "Just by joining the challenge," Gheidi says, "you're already making a difference."

ON REJECTION

Have you ever held your hand up for a high-five only to be ignored by your intended partner? Ever accepted a letter from your dream school that basically said you were too dumb to enroll? Ever asked a person out for a date only to get shot down, set on fire, and buried under two tons of dirt? (Disclaimer: these may seem like exaggerations, but trust me when I say that the feeling is the same.) Well, worry not, my friend. You are not alone. I know all about that longing and ache, and we've all been there sometimes. If this is your first time, though, or if you're just sick of the constant rejection, then you've come to the right place. Here is a little walkthrough for a not-so-little thing called Rejection.

Rejection is like puberty for the soul. It's a rite of passage for everyone in order to enter the complex and often confusing web that is adulthood. Much like its physical counterpart, rejection is painful, embarrassing, and something you will never forget going through. It comes back late at night when you're about to go to sleep, and the minute you close your eyes you remember that one time in second grade when your best friend didn't see you asking for a high-five and left you hanging in front of the whole school population to see. This usually results in you cringing underneath your blankets and vowing never to get out of bed again. Trust me, I've been there. We all get rejected—it's a part of life, and there's no need to dwell over it. Unless its a really emotionally-invested rejection, like if your girlfriend of ten years rejects you when you ask her to marry you, or if you're a dying soldier and the medical staff refuse to treat you on the account that you're too late to be saved. In which case you are allowed to dwell over the rejection and curse the Heavens for this cruel happenstance. And then you die. Emotionally or literally. Either way, it's not a peaceful death.

Going back, rejection is Not A Good Feeling, Dude. It feels like a lump in your throat and a weight sitting pretty on your chest. Whether it happens in public or private, it will feel the same. It will feel like death itself trying to embarrass you enough to make you want to die. Sometimes you will, sometimes you won't. It's all about shaking it off. If you're not easily swayed by stuff like these, congratulations. You are Emotionally Stable! People long to be just like you, you lucky motherfucker. However, if you are part of the unfortunate percentage that takes every rejection like a Nerf gun to the crotch (just like me!) then you need a little more time to recuperate.

So. What should you do if you get rejected? Here are a few tips from a fellow rejectee.

First, stay calm. No matter how anyone delivers the tragic news to you, you must always remember to stay calm. Don't lash out or talk in high-pitched voices or start crying in public. Take a deep breath or two, close your eyes, imagine your happy place. It's okay to be upset, but don't do anything irrational—it'll end worse than it started. So the best thing to do is stay calm, accept it for the meantime, and walk away.

Second—and this is my favorite part—let it out. You kept it in for the sake of preventing yourself from further humiliation, but once you're in a space that you're comfortable in or with friends to cheer you up, let that monster rip. It may come in nasty words or tears and chocolate-stained lips, but as much as possible let it out. That shit is toxic. Don't keep it in. If you do, it'll just find a way to leave your body and it might do so in front of people you love. And it may hurt them. So it's okay, let it out. Rant on Twitter, crush an apple with your bare hands, write a ten-page letter (Times New Roman, font size 9) about how much your life sucks. Just get it out of your system.

Third, start your healing process. Watch feel-good movies and eat ice cream straight out of the tub. Anything it takes to make yourself feel significantly less shitty, you do it. Except if it's illegal. In that case, consider taking up a different lifestyle, because I am not about to promote murder or hard drugs.

And while you're in your own little mourning period, take some time to do the fourth step: reflect. This is usually where you ask yourself, "Where did I go wrong?" or "How could I have made it better?" This is where you retrace your steps and realize your mistakes along the way, and how you can improve yourself next time. However, if you really were just screwed over, it's best not to take revenge. No matter how much you want to key that bastard's car or whatever, it's not going to be worth it. Trust me.

And what else? Love yourself. Tell yourself your mistakes do not define you and rejection is only a small hurdle in the marathon that is life. These are things that will help you get through your slump, get back on your feet, and conquer the world. Think about how J.K. Rowling was rejected by 12 different publishing houses, or how most of the successful people in the world had dropped out of school, kicked out of homes, or have experienced rejection somehow. Who knows? Maybe this is your success story, too. Don't hate your rejection. Own it. It's another story to tell when you're old and filthy rich, surrounded by great-grandchildren and pots of gold.

I'm not saying these are the only ways to get over your rejection. This is merely a guideline in case you don't know what to do. (For me, that is exactly the case in most situations.) You might think everything I wrote was just a bunch of horse crap. By all means, please feel free to comment on how I don't know anything about your pain, because you're right. This isn't a one-size-fits-all deal, and I respect that. Just move on and ignore me, if that's the case. One more rejection won't hurt me.

At the end of everything, rejection will always be a constant in everyone's life, and there's nothing wrong with that. All you need to do is find ways to absorb it to make yourself stronger. You know what they all say: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. And rejection will try to kill you.

Kill it back.

     
       Iris Mittenaere from France succeeded his journey to be crowned as the most beautiful women in the Universe; however, there were speculations that her interpreter was not able to convey her answer instead presented another idea that was dissimilar to her idea.

      We may consider that her interpreter might be nervous and he was uncertain with what Ms. France is saying, but it’s his job to translate Ms. France's answer, that’s why she was appointed for that matter.

      This mind-boggling incident was noticed by the Heussaff siblings, Erwan and Solenn. They tweeted a rant stating that the French interpreter doesn’t know how to speak French.
