Students from Social Journalism and Teacher’s Assistantship Program were invited to join the second and last day of the three-day symposium with the theme of Planting Seed: The Future of the Philippine Cinema, held at Ateneo de Naga University last February 22-24, 2017. The activity introduced various concepts of filmmaking from its origin down to the present changes of the Philippine Cinema. School heads, teachers and other government representatives from the six provinces of Bicol Region attended the said forum.
The FDCP Chairperson, Ms. Liza Dino invited respectable guest speakers to host the different plenary sessions. Mr. Wilfredo Manalang, the FDCP Executive Director was also present together with Mr. Tito Valiente, a film critic and educator and Dr. Noel Volante, the Film Festival Director. Also, award winning directors were as well in attendance.
On the second day of the symposium, Jose Javier Reyes discussed about the different generations of filmmakers; The Baby Boomers, Generation Xs, Millennials and introduced the Sententials. He further explained the different natures of this generations in connection to the rapid changes in Philippine Cinema.
On the last day of the symposium, Raymond Red, director of Anino a thirteen-minute film who won Best Independent Short Film in Cannes Film Festival ten years ago, enthusiastically introduced the origin of cinema. After his plenary session, his film Palme D’Or Best Short Film and his several of his film teasers were screened.
