One of the most important jobs of a filmmaker is to make someone's life miserable after watching their film and Damien Chazelle once again did it.
The movie La La Land is a complete theatrical film starring Emma Stone as Mia Dolan and Ryan Gosling as Sebastian Wilder. It is about a jazz player and an aspiring actress who are both searching for their own break chasing their dreams. The movie introduced the life of Los Angeles as the city of stars and the never ending dreams.
Right after the Summit Entertainment bought the film, Chazelle never failed in choosing the lead cast. Both Stone and Gosling did a great job from not just memorizing the fantastic screenplay of Chazelle but they let their characters creep inside them. Plus, who would've thought of these two as a dancer, singer and for Gosling as a professional jazz pianist? On the other hand, I also want to commend John Legend as Keith in the movie for being such a legend. Picking a singer to be an actor is such a genius move for the casting. John Legend's edge was his voice, which beautifully matched the vibe of the film.
Another good talents from the film are Jessica Rothe, Sonoya Mizuno and Callie Hernandez, and as a viewer I am craving for more screen time for these three. But all in all, right starting to the lead cast down to the extras, the casting will never let you down for they were all jaw droppingly talented.
But as you dive in the movie what you'll like most about the film was that the origin of it. Chazelle wrote the script of La La Land 7 years ago and now look at it; from the budget of $ 30 Million to the recent box office gross of $ 225.6 Million and counting. It is very symbolic in a way that not just the magical cinematography, the beyond amazing musical score of the film and the strong story board of the it made the movie successful but also the seven years of waiting.
Now, the world is singing City of Stars.
The movie taught me not to give up; that it's true that we will never gain without pain. La La Land on the other side, showed us that in life we are ought to sacrifice something. It showed us the love in reality.
I remember myself coming out of the theater with a blank face but also with an exploding heart. I was very sad because what I saw was real life--- the struggles of an artists, of a lover and a person. I'm going to remember the pain forever... but for now, I'm going to leave a rating of 6 out of 5.
Thank you, La La Land.
