Glenn Robinson III dunks to victory in the 2017 Verizon slam
dunk contest. After beating Derrick Jones Jr, DeAndre Jordan, and the last year’s
slam dunk champion Aaron Gordon who didn’t even pass the first round in the
contest.
After
Jones was awarded a 50 points for his second dunk of the final, giving him a two
dunk total of 87, Robinson knew already that he had a big percent chance of
winning. He just needed 43 points to tie and 44 points to win the contest.
With
the pressure in the atmosphere, Robinson used three people, including Paul
George for a second time, to jump over and execute an awe-inspiring reverse
dunk that gives him a perfect score and the victory.
It looked like Jones might
be our winner after his first two, but he faded as Robinson finished with two
great dunks in the final round. It was a shame to see Gordon fall off, but you
could tell he didn’t quite have the same magic as he did last year. He’s been
dealing with ankle injuries this year, and it makes sense that he might not be
quite where he was last year. (You also can’t blame Gordon for saying he won’t
compete next year, because going into this contest with those types of
expectations must take something out of you.)
