PMA Women Taking Authority

It has been 18 years since the last batch of the Philippine Military Academy had a valedictorian who was a woman. This year, the batch of 2017 will graduate with another female valedictorian, along with the top 10 in the class composed of 8 women and 2 men. 

The name of their valedictorian is Rovi Mairel Valino Martinez of Cabanatuan City. She mentioned in an interview that eversince she was a child, she already dreamed of becoming a soldier in order to serve the country and its people. Her parents served as her inspiration in doing well and in pursuing her goals. Having the same goal, the rest of the top 10 were, Philip Modesto Viscaya, their class Salutatorian from Ligao City Albay, Eda Glis Buansi Marapao of Baguio City, Cathleen Jovie Santiano Baybayan of San Fernando Pampanga, Carlo Emmanuel Manalasan Canlas of Pampanga,  Shiela Joy Ramiro Jallorina of Bagabag Nueva Viscaya, Sheil Marie Calonge De Guzman of Manaoag Pangasinan, Joyzy Mencias Funchica of Butuan City, Resie Jezreel Arrocena Hucalla of Compostella Valley, and Catherine Mae Emeterio Gonzales of Zamboanga City.  

Ms. Marinez, along with her fellow batchmates will be marching on Sunday, March 12, 2017 which will be attended by the President, Rodrigo Duterte also making it a symbol of his first ever PMA graduation ceremony as commander-in-chief.
